Tanya Stepan

AMBITION

Last night I dreamt I changed into a man.
I walked proudly despite my surgery,
my newly hung penis glorious.

I sent friends announcement cards of my news.
My exhilaration, my confidence protruded ahead of me.
And now I have nothing left to be bitter about.

WHY NOT SCHEME FOR PURE DOMINION?

Wouldn’t it surprise the husband?
Catch him at his historic crime:
Easy superiority, complacent success.

What other fortune have I found?
It’s Tuesday, I must drag the garbage to the curb.
There’s no going back, and I wouldn’t want to.
